The Thirst Project started with a group of 19 year old guys that met at a college. They were interested in each other and were trying to empress each other. One of the guys from Uganda told them his story of him having to run from lions when he had to walk three miles for water for his family. Everyone was surprise what he had to do for him and his family to survive.
The problem was that he had to walk miles for water that was not healthy. The water had very bad bacteria and not only he walked miles but so did millions of other people that had no water near them. Many kids die from drinking bad water, they would get skin disease, warms that would grow up to three feet’s and some would have really big stomachs. Also washing with dirty water can get you sick. Millions of people suffer with having to drink dirty water and losing people cause of the water.
The solution was to build a freshwater well in every place that doesn’t have access to clean water. The cost to build a freshwater well is up to 7,800 in Uganda to 20,000 in Kenya. They have to dig up to 100-300 feet underground to get to the water that already exists and place the well there. They get this money by asking communities for donations and also schools.
